Designed for those seeking physical detoxification, mental clarity, and emotional balance, the Panchakarma retreat at Kalari Kovilakom provides a structured approach to cleanse, heal, and rejuvenate through personalized therapies, sattvic nutrition, mindful living, and daily wellness practices.

What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma means “five actions” in Sanskrit, representing five core detoxification techniques used in Ayurveda to eliminate deep-rooted toxins (Ama) from the body:

  • Vamana – Controlled therapeutic vomiting to expel Kapha toxins

  • Virechana – Purgation to cleanse Pitta from the liver and intestines

  • Basti (Vasti) – Herbal enemas to remove Vata imbalances

  • Nasya – Nasal therapy to purify the head and sinuses

  • Raktamokshana (when prescribed) – Bloodletting for Pitta-related disorders

Each treatment plan is tailored by expert Ayurveda Vaidyas (physicians) following a comprehensive diagnosis process that includes:

  • Darshana (observation),

  • Sparshana (touch-based examination),

  • Prashna (detailed consultation).

Treatment Stages

1. Purvakarma – The Preparatory Phase

Before the main detox begins, your body is gently prepared through:

  • Snehana: Internal and external oleation with medicated ghee and herbal oils to loosen toxins

  • Swedana: Herbal steam therapy to open up channels and facilitate toxin removal

  • In some cases, Rukshana (dry therapies) are administered to balance excess Kapha or prepare oily absorption

  • Use of fresh, in-house herbal medicines grown in Kalari’s organic gardens

2. Pradhanakarma – The Main Panchakarma Therapy

Depending on your dosha imbalance and health condition, a combination of Panchakarma therapies is administered using:

  • Medicated oils, pastes, and decoctions

  • Herbal enemas

  • Steam treatments and nasal therapies

All procedures are performed under strict traditional protocols by trained Ayurvedic therapists.

3. Paschatkarma – Post-Therapy Rejuvenation

After detox, the body undergoes restoration through:

  • Customized Ayurvedic diet

  • Gentle daily routine

  • Herbal tonics to rebuild strength

  • Supportive therapies to maintain the balance achieved
